The analysis of family structure and family relations on adolescent life adjustment.

碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導學系 === 82 === The purpose of this study was to understand how family structure and family relations affect adolescent life adjust- ment. Two hundredand twenty six students from intact families and 238 students from divorced families were sampled from public junior high schools in Changhua. The Diagnostic Test for School Guidence and The Index of Family Relationships were adopted as measurements. The findings of this study were as follows: ⑴ Individual adjustment was found to be better for those adolescents whose family relations were good than those adolescents whose family relations were not.⑵ Adolescents whose individual adjustment were not affected no matter whether they are from intact familes or divorced families.⑶Social adjustment was also found to be better for those adolescents whose family relations were good than those adolescents whose family relatios were not. ⑷ In the divorced families, female adolescents had better social adjustment than male adolescents. For male adolescents, those from intact families had better social adjustment than those from divorced families. It means that the interaction between family structure and sex affected social adjustment of adolescents. Possible explanations for these findings and their implications were discussed.
