Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中央大學 === 化學工程研究所 === 82 === In a butadiene recovery plant, there are three different forms
of butadiene polymer: (1)liquid butadiene dimer, (2)dark
tarlike polymer, and (3)solid, benzene-insoluble popcorn
polymer. Because of clogging the pipe lines, condensers,
storage tanks, etc., these polymers greatly increase the
difficulty of maintaining a plant in normal operation. The
object of the present study was the investigation of
temperature, additives, and oxygen influences on the formation
of butadiene polymer through experiments. The experimental
results indicate that Popcorn polymerization tends to be
catalyzed at high temperature by the temperature overshooting
in the butadiene purification section, so the temperature
control is very important. In the presence of oxygen, it not
only catalyzes popcorn polymerization, but consumes a great
quantity of butadiene. So the oxygen content should be
controlled effectively in a butadiene recovery plant. In the
extractive distillation columns, butadiene is easy to form
dimer, and then dark tarlike polymer. So the condensed liquid,
which contained dimer, collected in the reflux tanks of first
and second stripper should be thoroughly cleaned to remove
dimer before reflux into the first and second stripper.
