Description
Summary:碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 牙醫學研究所 === 82 === Orthodontic tooth movement is mainly achieved by the application of a continuous mechanical force on the teeth. This applied force may evoke a series of physiological and biochemical responses amongst the periodontal tissues, many biological agents have been reported to be involved and/or have been used in the regulation and remodeling of tooth supporting apparatuses , such as vitD3、PTH、cAMP and PGs. In the practice traditional Chinese medicine , Salvia miltorrhiza Bge is used to accelerate the healing process of bone fractures by resolving the congestion and promoting revascularization. The healing process is a reconstruction of bone tissue similar to the change of the alveolar bones of the teeth treated with orthodontic force. Many studies have proved that salvia miltorrhiza Bge aids the healing of bone fractures. Therefore , this study was designed to test the effects of salvia miltorrhiza Bge on the periodontal tissued of miniature inbreed pigs during orthodontic tooth movement. We used seven Lanyu Miniature pigs. Two weeks after the extractions of all four second premolars , an orthodontic appliance of 150g reciprocal force was exerted on the first and third premolars of the same quadrant. In each experimental animals , the experimental site was given a 1.0 ml weekly submucosal injection of salvia miltorrhiza Bge between the experimental teeth. Both the control sides of the experimental animal and the control animal were given 1.0 ml of normal saline each. Immedialy the submucosal injection, the distance between the experimental teeth was measured with an electric dental vernier. At the same time , blood sample was collected for the determination of Ca++ , K+ , and alkaline phosphatase content , The experimental group animals were sacrificed on the third , sixth , ninth , twelfth , and fifteenth week of experiment. The control group animals were sacrificed on the fifteenth week. The alveolar bones of the experimental group were obtained by marginal resection and treated according to regularly tissue processing. Specimens were cut in the horizontal direction, stained with Hematoxylin - Eosin (HE) , and examined by a light microscope. We have found that the teeth of the experimental site sinjected with salvia miltorrhiza Bge were moved significantly faster than the teeth of the control sites injected with normal saline. The number of osteoclasts and osteoblasts of the experimental sites were also significantly higher than the control sites. The results of this study revealed that local injections of salvia miltorrhiza Bge into the experimental areas of orthodontic tooth movement have a significant effect upon histological change and speed of movement.
