Measurement of Prostaglandin E2 and Leukotriene B4 in the Gingival Crevicular Fluid

碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 牙醫學研究所 === 82 === A simple, non-invasive and site-specific competitive enzyme immunoassay to detect PGE2 and LTB4 in gingival crevicular fluids has been developed. The levels of PGE2 and LTB4 in the crevicular fluids were determined in samples from 15 adult periodontitis patients, 2 gingivitis patients and 7 healthy subjects. The data showed that (1) the total amount of PGE2 and LTB4 was the highest in the adult periodontitis patients, moderate in the gingivitis patients and the lowest in the healthy subjects; (2) the total amount of PGE2 was positively correlated with clinical parameters and reduced markedly after the periodontal treatment; (3) the concentration and total amount of LTB4 were positively correlated with gingival index. These results indicate that total amount of PGE2 was changed upon the severity of periodontal status, and the levels of LTB4 is a marker of inflammation. Thus, the total amount of PGE2 may be one of reliable indicators for periodontal disease status.
