碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 歷史學系 === 81 === To dream is like watching a movie, as far as modern man is concerned. We believe that a dream is a dream, and life is life. But when great ancient civilization, both East and West, is concerned,there is no clear-cut boundary separating both,at least once not. When scrutinizing documentation from Chinese History, one could discover a handful of materials regarding dreams and, recorded in historiography, which included dreams of Emperors, of mythology, of out of body experience, of prophecy, of enlightenment etc. How did ancient Chinese read the phenomenan of dreams? Why were dreams part of the history ? The theme of this thesis shall be:" Genera and Meanings of Dreams Before and During the Han dynasty-The Myth of Ancient Chinese Dreams". Starting off with ancient Chinese dreams as a myth and entering ancient China with a new perspective, thus exploring the definitions and readings of dreams according to various schools of thought during this period, and the cross- section of ancient thinking.
