At the same time, a new anisotropic .kappa.-.epsilon. model based on a very simple concept has been developed. The new model has been tested in several important typical problems, including the flow passing over a backward facing step, the flow in an axial dump combustor , the swirling flow in a sudden-expansion pipe with moderate and strong swirls, the flow in the three-dimensional side-dump combustor, and two- dimensional fully developed channel flow. In these tests, only one extra model constant is introduced and the constant is always kept the same with no ad hoc adjustment of other model constants as is usually adopted in other proposed modified models. The test results reveal that the new model offers an encouraging improvement in the prediction of the turbulent quantities as well as the mean flow characteristics over the standard .kappa.-.epsilon. model and other modified versions based on it. A comparison of features in the new model with other anisotropic versions of the .kappa-.epsilon. model also shows the superiority of the present proposed model.
