In this study,on-site tourists were asked to take photogr- aphs of their own landscape preference within a selected study area, and these photos were used to determine the landscape preference of the off-site public. Although the same photos were used to measure landscape preference, a significant diff- erence of landscape preference between tourists and the non- visiting public was found. This suggests that photos can not be used to substitute the image derived from the real landscape. Therefore, the use of photos for this purpose is in question. Secondly, it also has been derived that different landsca- pes have potentially different effects on the respondents, and these effects may sometimes distort the research results. Finally, a three-stage photo- selecting procedure has been proposed. The procedure is as follows : acquisition, first examination, and double examination of the photos.
