But in the Taipei Metropolitan Area - a metropolitan with special developmental process, political system, and clutural characteristics, is there a distinct spatial pattern of residential differentiation? This is a research topic that deserve studying and is what this will discuss. Three qestions are proposed before analysis, 1.Is there a distinct pattern of residential differentiation? 2.In the past fourty years, the economic development in Taiwan has resulted in spatial expansion of the Taipei Metropolitan Area. How does it influence the characteristics of the residents in The Taipei Metropolitan Area? 3.Have the household characteristics in the Taipei Metropolitan Area been changed in recent years? Has the change in household characteristics promoted a more distinct residential differentiation than before? This illustrates focus conclusions : 1.The economic development for every county in the Taipei Metropolitan Area show a sequential order in time, and the significance in residential differentiation results in differences in characteristics of residents. 2.The pattern of residential differentiation in the Taipei Metropolitan Area is different from that in western cities. Two factors - social- economic status and early stage life cycle show that influence by the force of structure, supply and demand in the housing market. 3.The characteristics of recent migrants and new housing stocks is simlar to the characteristics of existing residents and existing housing stocks. This will reenforce an existing pattern of differentiation. 4.The development of residential differentiation in the Taipei Metropolition Area can be verified and explained by related theories on the study of western cities for past decades.
