usually have a lower shrinkage of volume than those
from the simple addition polymerization. In some
systems, such as cyclosiloxane, the entropy of
polymerization being a positive value, show a much lower
shrinkage of volume. In order to reduce the shrinkage
of epoxy resin during the curing process, the caprolactam
was incoroporated with epoxy to proceed a copolymerization
reation. In this work, various contents of caprolactams and
BF3MEA were added to epoxy, and the relation between of
shrinkage of volume and the entropy of polymerization was
investigated. It indicates that increasing the content of
caprolactams will lead to a lower shrinkage of volume
and larger number of ring the lactams have the lower
shrinkage of volume the copolymers have. With the aid of
the Infrared spectrum and Scanning electronic microscope
analysis and mechanical tests, the structure and
properties of the copolymers were investigated. The
results show that the incoroperation of caprolactam
will lead to the increas of tensile strength and elogation,
but the Izod impact was not improved.
