Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立師範大學 === 英國語文學研究所 === 81 === This thesis adopts an analysis based on lexical decomposition, arguing that psychological causative-transitives and psycho- logical stative-transitives have different lexical structures and, therefore, different D-structures, which differ only in that the former class of psychological predicates has a higher causal structure which is absent from the latter. It is the extra causal structure that permits the c-command violation between an anaphor and its antecedent displayed in sentences with psychological causative-transitives. The discussion also leads to some predictions that the lexical decomposition analysis allows certain generalizations to be made across a large number of lexical verbs of similar semantic types.
