phase difference between ywo readily-obtained signals is used
to directly give the phase retardation of the test fiber.The
detec- tion scheme consists of two wave plates,two sections of
fiber and an electro-optic modulator.The unique feature of this
measurement scheme comes from the idea of determining the
afore- mentioned difference by using two section of fiber,one
of which is the test fiber.Experiments show that the proposed
method gives a reliable reading for the linear fiber
birefringence.
