The instrument used was a self-designed questionnaire. The subjects involved were 70 high-achieving and 137 less successful students. The high-achieving students were the contestants in the 1992 Ministry of Education Sponsored National English Competition. The less successful students were from two senior high schools in the southern part of Taiwan. Eight major findings were elicited and ten pedagogical suggestions based on the findings were offered.
