Ideally, the information should be reused to help database design. This research describes a data reengineering process to get useful infomation from traditional file systems. This process includes three software tools : (1)data reverse engineering tool that extracts information, (2) data re- engineering tool that clears up data naming problems, and (3) data dictionary tool that stores all relevant infor- mation. This process then extends to data maintenance for constant evolution. The compelete process provides an effective transition from traditional file systems to data base environment.
