Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 西洋語文學系 === 78 ===   In this thesis, the multiple translations of a single literary text are dealt with in order to benefit translation students.   Chapter One deals with, first, various types of literary translations, second, various factors which diversify translations, e.g. language, age, audience, translator himself.   Chapter Two is mainly concerned with the study of different ways of saying the same thing in order to view multiple translations of a single text from another angle. The discussion of this chapter has pedagogical purpose in mind.   Chapter Three is devoted to an experiment in teaching translation. Eleven versions of the opening lines of Homer's Iliad are juxtaposed as example. This chapter has also included a comparative analysis of various versions of translation. The purpose of this exper iment is to demonstrate how multiple translations of a single literary text can be best utilized as teaching materials for the course of translation.
