Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立政治大學 === 中國文學研究所 === 78 === In this thesis I will focus my attention on the voices of discontents from the oppressed women against the discriminating androcentric patriarchy; I am concerned about as much women's aduring sufferings as the unraveling of the roots of their oppression The main body of this thesis divides itself into two parts The first part deals with Arabella's marriages the motives underlying her marriages, her throwiung of a pig pizzle as a symbol signifying the sovereignty of patri- archy, her sardonical irony of the label "the weaker sex" by dominating o- ver Jude, as well as Arabella's being an incomplete love in D H Lawrence's view The second part centres on Sue's marriages her New Women conception of ma- rriage, her inhibition from sexuality as a means to challenge the male-do- minated social machines, as well as her utter repudiation of christianity。
