However, the essence of its originality is still based upon western style as the blueprint. Indeed, it needs some Kind of break through and a continuance of creativeness and should not always depend on the nourishment of western culture. Building up our own value syetem and architectural language with Chinese characteristics is, thus , essential and should not be delayed. The starting point of this begins with the spacious format of Chinese court-yard house ----classifying its specialties by investigating the back-ground, the structure, the form, and the style of spacious in them. Next comes a criticism and analysis of the existing problems in the development of comtempory Taiwan architecture. Then a comparison between Chinese court-yard house & modern architecture in Taiwan is made, and a result is reached when finding the basic terms in how to combine traditional and modern style. Also, to point out certain principle and area occur in traditional style where modern architecture can utilize. Finally, two examples are given as the conclusion of this piece of writing. Different people have different views regarding the practice and the technic in traditional architecture,therefore the writer will only provide concepts of principle to hint at any problems that might occur during practices. This writing is a research work on paper and is for reference only. But the job of expanding the future prospect of Chinese architecture lies in the hands of the architects themselves, and it is their effort we look forward to.
