(b)Be guided and controlled automatically.   Intermdiate capacity Automatic guide way transit (AGT) system is to be introduced and analyzed. This systen is powered by electricity. dispensed with cab-drivers and attendents on board the vehicles. and reduced number of supervisory staffs along the guideway stations.   This paper describes firstly on the development background, fundamental operating characteristics, and related in frastructures of the AGT system and then presents and compares its functional charcteristics of different types of existing intermediate capacity AGT systems.   For automation and control of its guideway and operation:   (1)Basic function and requirements of automatic braking system, automaic train contral (ATC), automatic train operation (ATO) systems are firstly introduced.   (2)Conclusion and evaluation among different types of automatic systems are made for the train operation system.   (3)Comparison is also presented on the function of different types of switching devices.   Cost and benefit study of this AGT system is made by means of comprehensive utility function method for system evaleation.   Finally the conclusion and suggestion of such system are discussed.
