Though some scholarship on Masekela and jazz in South Africa exists, no study has offered musical analysis of Masekela&rsquo;s prolific body of work. The purpose of this document is to examine Masekela&rsquo;s musical and personal evolution towards advocacy and activism, and to identify and analyze elements of protest within his music.
