Part One (quantitative) examined demographic, resident need, and environmental factors to determine their value in predicting readmission. Logistic regression analysis revealed significant predictive value for a model including one resident need factor (level of ID) and one environmental (change in psychotropic medication from admission to discharge). Part Two (qualitative) involved gathering information about experiences of readmission from eight residents at the institutional setting. Residents attributed community placement breakdown to their challenging behaviors that resulted from a vulnerability to stressors. Within their communities, residents reportedly experienced serious consequences following behavioral crises. Varied and quality treatments were accessible in the institutional setting, where challenging behavior decreased. Residents expressed concern regarding leaving the familiar institutional setting; however, they collectively indicated a desire to become productive members of their communities. Relationships with family and staff were frequently mentioned. Clinical implications and future directions were discussed. 2013 English text Xavier University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=xavier1396715643 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=xavier1396715643 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
