Semistructured individual oral interviews with 40 Caucasian women (half in their 70s and half in their 90s) were conducted. The interviews were transcribed verbatim, and the data were analyzed using grounded theory. The results were compared to three existing theoretical models of adult development: Erikson's psychosocial theory, Atchley's continuity theory, and Peck's model of women's development. The results showed more similarities than differences between the two cohorts, including the importance of physical health and relationships with others.
