Risk assessment is intended to improve and systematize the decision-making process. However, many assessments still allow the user to override information on the tool. For instance, the Ohio Youth Assessment System-Disposition Tool (OYAS-DIS) allows the user to override the risk level that is produced by the tool to whichever other risk level that the officers feels is a more accurate depiction of criminogenic risk. The purpose of this dissertation was to explore the use of overrides on the OYAS-DIS. Specifically, this dissertation examined: (1) the ways in which officers justified the use of overrides, (2) the factors that predicted the use of overrides, (3) the influence of overrides on the predictive validity of the tool, and (4) the impact that overrides had on court outcomes. 2019 English text University of Cincinnati / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1573575214143986 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1573575214143986 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
