Over the past several decades, the 5-year survival rate for ALL has risen to nearly 90% due to incorporation of modern treatment protocols that employ vincristine (VNC) as the frontline antineoplastic agent. Unfortunately, such improved outcomes have drawbacks, as VNC, along with several other chemotherapeutic agents produce neurotoxic effects and can result in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in patient populations of all ages. While CIPN has been well studied clinically and experimentally in adults, little is known about the consequences of chemotherapy exposure in early life. Given that childhood ALL diagnoses typically occur around 2-3 years of age, a time at which the developing nervous system may be differentially vulnerable to peripheral insults, this dissertation characterizes for the first time, a rodent model of pediatric vincristine-induced peripheral neuropathy. 2019-08-12 English text University of Cincinnati / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1559057677003753 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1559057677003753 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
