Identifying evidence-based prevention and intervention methods for mood dysregulated bipolar offspring will help to create viable treatment options for this at-risk population. The current study examined how one intervention, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy – Child (MBCT-C), may help improve emotional regulation and impact the family environment. Improving emotion regulation and the family environment may help slow symptom expression for children at-risk for developing bipolar. Participants experienced nonsignificant decreases in anxiety and depressive symptoms and nonsignificant improvements in emotion regulation, which approached significance. Participants and their parents reported significant positive changes in family environment. Further longitudinal research is necessary to explore the efficacy of MBCT-C in preventing or slowing the development of bipolar disorder in bipolar offspring. 2019-06-25 English text University of Cincinnati / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1552377390460183 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1552377390460183 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
