The response to thisis to engage in a thick process. This process is slow, methodical, and iterative. Itfocuses on the ties between each action taken and how that creates a richer end.The proposal of a “Big, Beautiful Wall” is a formulaic one which assumes andexhibits a reality that isn’t true: that the border can have a singular simplesolution spanning the entire 2,000 miles of it and that the solution is a wall.This thesis project proposes an alternative: a series of devices or monumentswhich mark the border, create threshold, compound the distance created by theboundary line, and stitch together two landscapes.Within this thesis are a series of exercises both in making and representationwhich seek to understand a new process defined by translations. Through eachstep, more information is layered and the result is embedded in the act whichcreated it.
