Biology Wetlands Forest Remote sensing Management The interaction between humans and nature is universal to all aspects of environmental biology. This relationship has been particularly important along the urban-rural gradient, where highly concentrated human populations border expansive ecological communities. Because it exists in a spatial context, ecology is affected by land-stewardship and the judgment of property owners. This thesis investigates the biological conditions of two ecosystems (wetlands and eastern deciduous forests) along the urban-rural gradient.
