Traditional analyses will be presented and the links to the analysis presented herein will be established. As the method for determining the variance, or confidence bounds, has changed since its first introduction nearly 40 years ago, both the original and more modern analysis will be discussed with descriptions of the pros and cons of each. After weighing these pros and cons and evaluating the assumptions made, the appropriate analysis is chosen for the testing at hand. The subsequent application in a data acquisition and analysis software package is detailed, including modifying the equations for use in the MATLAB language and some of the current drawbacks of the analysis.
