As a result less energy has been focused on architecture’s role in mediating the past through its contents. </p><p>Aid in displaying and interpreting artifacts should remain the museum’s primary design focus because it can provide a more complete understanding of the past. This investigation examines the role of artifacts in understanding the past through the observations of Lowenthal, Lynch and other authors. It analyzes successful museum precedents that facilitate this understanding through architectural space. </p><p>This information is then applied toward the development of a design case study for a carnival heritage museum in Kinsley, Kansas.
