The Bio-MEMS group at the University of Cincinnati is currently developing nano interdigitated sensor system for the determination of trace amounts of biomolecules. The back end of the sensor system is composed of electronics that drive the sensor and measure the transduced molecular concentration.

Ultra low concentrations of biomolecules give currents in the order of picoamps, measuring which, is a difficult task. The present work involved development of an ASIC for measuring sensor currents of the order of picoamps and sub-picoamps using amperometry technique. The sensor current is converted into a corresponding voltage (I-V conversion) by integrating it over time. An op-amp is used for carrying out the integration process. Associated digital control circuitry was also developed and fabricated on the ASIC. Techniques for minimizing the impact of leakage, noise, charge injection and clock feedthrough which undermine the accuracy of measurement were used in the design and layout of ASIC. The ASIC was fabricated through MOSIS in AMI-ABN 1.5µm n-well process.
2008 English text University of Cincinnati / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1224267414 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1224267414 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: some rights reserved.
