Samples from a full-scale wetland used to treat domestic wastewater and from in-situ controls that isolated influent from the wetland substrate were used to determine die-off and removal rates. Fecal coliforms, E. coli, and enteroccocus were enumerated. Plug flow hydraulics and first order kinetics were assumed in determining rate constants. When these assumptions were met, there was no significant difference between die-off and wetland removal, however the assumptions were not valid for the full system most of the time. Effluent indicator counts were not in compliance with common wastewater standards.
