LS-DYNA3D Crashworthiness Guardrail Finite Element Analysis The vehicle fleet in the United States is rapidly changing. On average, 50% or more of the vehicles sold today are light trucks and SUV’s. The current roadside hardware, however, was designed, tested and constructed when cars were the vehicle of choice. This presents a possible compatibility issue during vehicle/hardware impacts and increased occupant injury. The results of two finite element simulations are presented. These simulations were performed using the National Crash Analysis Center’s full-size pick-up model, a guardrail/post barrier and a rigid occupant model. These simulations were conducted in order to extract injury values from a belted and unbelted occupant.
