Smart phones, tablets, the Internet and many other inventions had a major impact on the way people live. These devices have changed the way people, communicate, gain knowledge and even the way they entertain themselves. However, along with being fascinated by these electronics, people are also concerned about the possible negative impacts of such devices especially on children. These concerns opened the door for a large body of research investigating every potential effect of electronic media on children at all levels. This paper explores how the use of electronic media may affect the social development of children. In particular, this study looked into what parents think of their children using these electronic media devices and whether or not this usage had any influence on their children. I used qualitative research methods to investigate the implications of electronic media on children`s social skills. I conducted interviews with five parents whose children are active electronic media users. I analyzed the data by transcribing and then coding the interviews. Four themes emerged: time consumption, parental control, loss of emotions, and socially active children. 2018-06-08 English text University of Toledo / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=toledo149460325668019 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=toledo149460325668019 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: some rights reserved.
