All of these key outcome variables are critical to success of hospitals, especially since the advent and implementation of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Sampling utilizes the quantitatively driven Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology to identify major teaching hospitals that most efficiently produce the highest Value Based Purchasing (VBP) scores for inclusion in this study. Face-to-face, in-depth interviews were conducted with 75 individuals that comprised the senior leadership teams of 10 different healthcare institutions that participated in this study and provided a qualitative, context rich, approach to understanding the phenomena under question.Analysis of over 55 hours of interview recordings and over 1,000 single spaced pages of interview transcripts using a frequency protocol technique identified common themes associated with successful and sustainable organizational change in regards to performance improvement in patient quality, outcomes, and experiences at the sample hospitals. Lessons learned, best practices, and future challenges are discussed, as well as a discussion of potential future research issues. 2013-11-26 English text University of Toledo / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=toledo1372862854 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=toledo1372862854 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
