We test this using Add Health. We conducted OLS regression to test if (1) individuals in Black/White interracial couples experience higher stress and discriminatory experiences, (2) individuals in Black/White interracial couples experience worse depression and self-rated health, and (3) if depression and self-rated health for individuals in Black/White interracial couples vary as a function of perceived stress and experiences of discrimination. Sex differences were assessed within each hypothesis. Compared to White couples, interracial couples were, on average, more likely to experience discrimination, and higher perceived stress. Further, interracial couples experienced more depressive symptoms, and had worse overall self-rated health; a potential mechanism underlying these associations might be through increased stress and discrimination. Our analyses suggest that interracial couples might be experiencing worse health outcomes due to being in a marginalized relationship. 2020 English text The Ohio State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1592932258246679 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1592932258246679 restricted--full text unavailable until 2025-08-24 This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
