Cavara and Grande. Glyphosate herbicide application from late fall to early spring when non-target plants are dormant is an effective way to control pre-reproductive A. petiolata. To determine the low temperature extreme at which this method is effective, glyphosate was applied at three dates from November to February in two years and target and non-target plant survival was monitored. Glyphosate was effective at all application dates, even when air temperatures at application were below 0° C. Therefore, by targeting rosettes throughout the winter (when the temperature is above freezing) managers can be more flexible in determining ideal spray times. To manage reproductive A. petiolata, flowering plants are pulled. However, plants pulled during reproductive stages may still produce seeds. Seed production and viability were compared from plants pulled at 4 growth stages. Plants pulled as early as the onset of flowering produced some viable seeds. Severing plant tops or roots did not reduce seed production. Placing pulled plants in plastic, but not paper or mesh, bags killed all seeds. Remote sensing and soil data were used in conjunction with a survey of Ohio's worst invasive plants to investigate A. petiolata distribution and abundance over a 5730-ha study area. Only four of Ohio's thirteen worst invasive plants were commonly found in the survey area. Number of land uses and slope were good predictors of invasive plant distribution.
