Four boys between the age of five and six acted as participants. In the study, the participants first had to complete a less preferred activity, a prewriting activity sheet, to access to the preferred center, the housekeeping center. An alternating treatment design with an initial baseline was implemented to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention on the children’s prewriting skills. The design employed four sequential phases: (a) Baseline, (b) Contingent vs. Noncontingent, (c) Contingent Only, (d) Follow-Up. The participant’s attendance, engagement, duration, and quality of work were examined. Findings revealed that all of the participants improved in their attendance, engagement and quality of work. Inconsistent results were found regarding their duration. Future directions for research are discussed. 1998 English text The Ohio State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1399552838 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1399552838 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
