The new emphasis, however, combines mechanized equipment and draft horse power to complete farming tasks more efficiently as well as more economically. For this reason, draft horses are considered, for purposes of this study, horses of production. Arabian horses by contrast are considered to be horses of conspicuous consumption. The primary activity involving Arabian horses is horse showing.

The major methodology used for this study was a qualitative approach which incorporated those aspects of field research such as participant observation, case studies and extensive interviewing. Visual documentation and survey were also employed to give a more comprehensive approach to the qualitative research used.
1981 English text The Ohio State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1392110243 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1392110243 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
