After reviewing previous research and various approaches on the education of metaphors in second language education, this study proposes a learner-centered pedagogy based on Zull’s four-phased learning cycle for the acquisition of metaphorical expressions in Chinese culture. In addition, examples of advanced-level Chinese L2 learners’ application of cultural metaphors in formal writing will be presented.
