Further, when compared against randomized re-ordering of the same music, analysis reveals an overall preference for consonant intervals. Preference of and preference for dissonant intervals significantly increase during the free atonal and twelve-tone works. However, dissonant interval preference never completely surpasses consonant interval preference. These findings appear to be inconsistent with Schoenberg's own ideals regarding the organization of music. 1999 English text The Ohio State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1124805242 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1124805242 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
