Organizational Behavior Organization Theory Work-Life Balance Organizational Communication Work Place Communication Librarian Employees Athens County Public Libraries This study focuses on six work-life balance programs: compressed work weeks, telecommuting, extended family leave, flexible work hours, onsite childcare, and job sharing. Current research by communication scholars emphasize the importance of worklife assistance from organizations, as well as the necessity of a supervisor that openly approves of such assistance. However, there isn’t much research on which programs are preferred/most beneficial to library employees. This study evaluates current employee perception on work-life balance and communication at each Athens County Public Libraries branch, as well as which programs are favored by ACPL employees. The survey features two components of the Shah (2017) Work-Life Conflict Measure, along with a section for current workplace communication, and a section featuring the six WLB programs. Results from this study indicate that employees have the highest preference for telecommuting and compressed work weeks, although employees were open to nearly every option, except for on-site childcare. After analyzing results, a policy change proposal was sent to the ACPL director, Mr.Tepe.
