Twelve, apparently healthy men (18-35 years), performed 10 sessions of treadmill walking at 50 ± 5% of their predetermined VO2 for 20 min separated by 2-3 days. The men were randomly placed into one of two groups–control, no BFR (CON) or BFR training groups. The BFR group trained with pressure cuffs applied to the most proximal portion of the thigh and inflated to 200 mmHg during their walk training. Before and after the 10 sessions of training, meal challenges were performed, participants consumed a standardized, mixed nutrient meal and gave a blood sample before and 3 hr after the consumption of a standard meal. In the meal challenge, glucose and insulin concentrations were determined. Concentrations were compared using a repeated measures ANOVA with both a one-way ANOVA and least significant differences post hoc tests. In conclusion, 10 sessions of moderate intensity BFR walk training significantly decreased fasting and postprandial insulin concentrations, while not impacting blood glucose. 2018-07-11 English text Ohio University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ohiou1513867607381169 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ohiou1513867607381169 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
