The paper addresses a need that is analogous to the creation of a stealth building. If buildings can be made stealthy, then considerable commercial and economic benefit can be gained by making available heretofore unusable land for construction of hangars, sort centers, and warehouses. The power of the computer is applied to identify methods for achieving stealth. The intent is to apply some creative engineering to relieve some constraints which have been in place since the inception of the Instrument Landing System. A computer model based on the physical theory of diffraction (PTD) was developed to aid in the analysis of the non-planar surfaces. Calculated and measured data illustrate the ability of the theoretical model to predict localizer multipath effects due to scattering from non-planar surfaces. The results also indicate that the use of multipath-mitigating modules provides a viable option for the solution of localizer multipath problems.</p> 1995 English text Ohio University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ohiou1174610226 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ohiou1174610226 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
