The research presented herein focuses on estimating the attitude for a short baseline platform using low-cost sensors.

The attitude estimation routine developed is segmented into the following stages. A single epoch instantaneous ambiguity resolution technique is first implemented to resolve carrier phase ambiguities. Least Mean Square (LMS) solution method is then used to estimate baseline vectors from double differenced carrier phase measurements. A direct method and LMS linearization techniques are developed to derive the platform attitude from baseline vector estimates. Both methods are tested for simulation and live data. The LMS linearization technique is found to be more robust especially when yaw, roll and pitch have simultaneous changes over a wide range. By making use of the above mentioned methods attitude determination accuracy of 15 mrad or better was achieved for both simulation data and live data tests.

The future application of this research is in the area of low-cost GPS/IMU integration where attitude estimates from a multi-antenna GPS system are applied to calibrate the IMU.
2006-12-29 English text Ohio University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ohiou1163482121 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ohiou1163482121 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
