Ramifications of this story, however, proved damaging to those who were seen as “not fitting in.” As a result, many in the Middle-Eastern and South Asian communities experienced harmful backlash. This thesis critically examines this “new American narrative” in the context of those still left marginalized as a result of discrimination after 9/11. Taking insights from hermeneutics and counter-narrative, it presents the stories of four individuals deeply affected by discrimination in the post-9/11 environment. Their stories are intended to help elucidate the lived experience of those dealing with similar circumstances, and the ways they try to make sense of their identity and community. Overall, this thesis should bring to the fore the issue of how we view democracy and pluralism in a post-9/11 world. 2005-04-28 English text Miami University Honors Theses / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=muhonors1114627986 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=muhonors1114627986 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
