Shakya, Shamatree Gerontology Hypertension awareness and education The primary objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between education and hypertension awareness. This study used secondary data from an ongoing study, the Jiri Genetic Eye Study. Using logistic regression, I examined the relationship between hypertension awareness and education among 727 adults 18 years and above with clinical hypertension. No significant association was observed between education and hypertension awareness in unadjusted or adjusted analyses. Among the covariates studied, greater BMI and former alcohol use were significantly associated with increased hypertension awareness; younger age was associated with reduced awareness. Inconsistent with fundamental cause theory, education did not improve hypertension awareness.
