To answer this question, we focus on the business core that all business studentstake at Miami. The data spans 2003 to 2015 cohorts, with the change to a full directadmissions policy occurring in the 2012 cohort. This allows us to explore how coursegrades and students’ decisions of when and where to take the course differ over multipleadmissions policies. The analysis shows significant changes between the policy periodsoverall. Most notably, the average student GPA decreases with the switch to directadmissions, after controlling for ability. The effects seem to be concentrated inManagerial Accounting and Calculus 1. These effects differ when students are broken upinto high and low ability groups as well as minority and non-minority. Low abilitystudents appear to benefit from the new policy, narrowing the gap between them and thehigh ability students, but minority students seem to be hurt by the new policy in that they have lower GPAs on average. 2019-04-22 English text Miami University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1555452120150621 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1555452120150621 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
