Theseleadership associations provide opportunities for students to lead peers, make significantchanges to university policy, and practice politics on a small scale. Running Start, anational organization that aims to bring young women into politics, provides a programcalled Elect Her to college campuses to prepare college women to run for studentgovernment leadership positions. This dissertation examines the influence of Elect Her onparticipants’ perception of their leadership, their motivation to run for studentgovernment office, and three items on the Socially Responsible Leadership scale thatmost closely align with political ambition. Comparison is made with a control group thatwas nominated for the workshop but did not attend.
