My primary responsibility is to maintain the integrity ofthe quarantine boundaries within Clermont County, Ohio, set by the USDA to prevent thespread, and promote the eradication of the Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) (Anoplophoraglabripennis). My typical activities include: surveying trees on public and private landfor the presence of ALB, reporting illegal firewood transport within the quarantine zone,and monitoring tree removal of infested and high-risk host trees, performed bysubcontractors of the USDA. The following report provides a literature review on thebiology of ALB, the current and potential impact of ALB on Clermont County’seconomy, and background information on past and ongoing ALB eradication programs inother states and countries. My daily activities are described in greater detail withexplanations of the relevance they have towards eradicating ALB.
