According to the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, speech-language pathologists (SLP) should be the primary provider in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of children with dysphagia. The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine the responsibilities of SLPs with the care of pediatric dysphagia in the EI setting. An initial website screening of all 50 State programs completed prior to the study revealed that individual State legislation rarely associates the SLP with dysphagia services. Six States with unique weaknesses and strengths from the initial screening served as the samples for the study. Representatives at both regional and State levels agreed to participate in interviews to supply further information about their individual State’s EI model. The variable responses highlight the need for supplementary education options for future and current clinician. 2015-04-30 English text Miami University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1430396691 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1430396691 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: some rights reserved.
