Physics magnetic resonance anisotropy magnetoelastic magnetocrystalline Ni strain thin film FMR physics The unexpected observation of two ferromagnetic resonances in single crystal, thin film Ni on MgO prompted further investigation into the crystal structure, magnetoelastic anisotropy, magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and the temperature dependencies of both the [100] and the [110] sample. Magnetoelastic analysis provided almost full explanation for the differing out-of-plane anisotropies of the two resonances in each sample. However, there remain several observations which were predicted to be explained by the magnetoelastic anisotropy and/or magnetocrystalline anisotropy, neither of which were able to fully account for the observations.
