Using this well-known click chemistry reaction, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, naproxen, could possibly be coupled to an apoptosis inhibitor, Q-VD-OPh. Two synthetic routes were envisioned. The most effective click reaction was the Cu(I) catalyzed cycloaddition of naproxen propargyl ester to 4-azido-2,6-difluorophenol acetate.
